Who We Are
The Karimjee Group, founded in 1825 by Jivanjee Budhabhoy, is one of East Africa’s leading family-run enterprises. A trusted name everywhere it operates, the Group manages successful businesses across seven clusters and has long-term partnerships with world- leading brands including Toyota, Yamaha, Hero, and Rolls-Royce Generators.
In 2024, Karimjee Group became an authorised distributor in Tanzania of SKF, a global leader in bearing manufacturing and service.
SKF (Svenska Kullagerfabriken) is a global leader in the manufacturing and service of bearings. Karimjee Value chain is the authorised distributor of SKF in Tanzania. Karimjee Value chain is a sub segment of the Karimjee Group.

Our Story
1. 1818, Zanzibar: The Karimjee family has a long and established history in East Africa stretching back to 1818 when the family arrived as traders from the area of Cutch, in India, to the island of Zanzibar.
2. Respected History: What was once a small trading business conducted painstakingly on annual dhow voyages plying between India and East Africa, has blossomed into a highly respected group.
3. Auto Growth: Socialism and the weak Tanzanian economy between the 1960’s and 1990’s resulted in the loss of all but the automobile business, which has become the cornerstone of a new phase of growth and diversification.
4. 200 Years: In 2025 the Karimjee Group celebrates it’s 200th anniversary. Founded on values which remain relevant to this day.
